10 Reasons to Plant

I used to be afraid to buy and own plants because I wasn't sure what to do to take care of them and it seemed like a lot of work. In college I had enough on my plate just taking care of myself let alone remembering to water or not over water my plants. Now, I can't imagine my apartment without them. I am partial to succulents, cacti, and air plants because I've had my fair share of accidental plant deaths and I'd like to avoid that as much as possible.

I have a beautiful bird cage that I originally intended and, did for some time, use as a planter for succulents. I wanted to hang my Alice and Wonderland figurines from the bird cage bars but I didn't get quite that far. The project is still pending because I still think it would look beautiful.

I'm writing this post because one of my coworkers brought in eucalyptus branches for everyone to hang in their showers. This is an amazing idea. I told her that my mother taught me whenever I got sick to wipe the tile walls of my shower with eucalyptus oil which, activated by the steam of the hot water, helps alleviate congestion.

Yesterday I went to Marianos, my grocery store of all places, and walked by the most adorable succulent terrariums. I couldn't help but purchase one. I've decided to write a quick list of reasons to own plants for anyone who is still on the fence:
  1. If the idea of growth, life, and positive change invigorates or calms you, it's only natural.
  2. To freshen up your apartment and make it more welcoming.
  3. If you need help sleeping there are certain plants that promote relaxation and oxygen flow. Lavender oil is incredible for inducing peaceful sleep!
  4. If you would like a tiny bit of structure to your life. Good step before a pet.
  5. Planting days you can do as a solo creative activity or with friends.
  6. You can easily share and grow succulents from their leaves with little to no cost.
  7. Gardening is a good opportunity to grow herbs for cooking, worship, and healing.
  8. Succulents and cacti can survive a lot and are dependable.
  9. They make thoughtful and long lasting gifts.
  10. Getting your hands dirty, planting and watering brings you closer to nature and clean energy.
I'd also like to take a moment to plug Cultivate Urban Rainforest as an excellent place to buy plants:
